First Hindu stone temple in Abu Dhabi

The first Hindu stone temple in Abu Dhabi, the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandir, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14th February.

On 13th February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates for his assistance and for kindly providing the site for the construction of a Hindu temple here, citing it as a sign of his affinity for India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the United Arab Emirates on 13th February, beginning a two-day visit during which he would conduct comprehensive discussions with the senior officials of the Gulf nation to further the bilateral strategic relationship and dedicate the country's first Hindu stone temple.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said before his departure to UAE that our collaboration with the UAE has expanded greatly over the past nine years in a variety of areas, including commerce and investment, security and defense, food and energy security, and education. We have more cultural and interpersonal ties than ever before. He further added, "I'm forward to have an extended discussion on advancing our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, when we meet in Abu Dhabi. I will open Abu Dhabi's first Hindu Mandir. The BAPS temple will stand as a lasting testament to the shared ideals of harmony, peace, and tolerance between the UAE and India. At a special event in Abu Dhabi, I will speak to members of the Indian community from every Emirate in the United Arab Emirates."

The Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Hindu Mandir is situated on around 27 acres of land in Abu Dhabi, next to Al Rahba on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway. Construction on the building began in 2019.

The first Hindu stone temple in Abu Dhabi is a masterpiece of architecture composed of contributions from all across the nation. Features include holy water from the Ganga and Yamuna, pink sandstone from Rajasthan, and furniture built from wooden trunks used to transport stones from India. Swami Brahmaviharidas, head of international relations for BAPS said that the wood from the boxes and trunks used to carry the stones was utilized to make all of the furniture that is now in place throughout the temple, including the community center, prayer halls, and cafeteria. The temple has elements of India in every part.

Three further Hindu temples in the United Arab Emirates are situated in Dubai. The BAPS temple will be the biggest in the Gulf, spanning a sizable expanse and featuring stone architecture. At least 3.5 million Indians labor is present in the Gulf, including the United Arab Emirates.
