Farmers from Noida held a massive protest march

 On 8th February, farmers from Noida held a massive protest march from the Chilla border in Noida in order to seek their demands. Farmers gathered to protest in Delhi borders again. Noida police increased security at the Delhi border as hundreds of farmers gathered to march towards Parliament.

Farmers protest led to traffic disruption

 Due to the increased police security at the Delhi borders, traffic disrupted mostly in the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Delhi–Noida Direct Flyway (DND). Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait joined the protestors in Greater Noida in the afternoon, to support his Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) members who were protesting since the beginning. Farmers tried to climb the barricades placed by the police personnel near the flyover. Vehicles bound for Delhi underwent stringent inspection. The farmers demand developed plots against their land acquired by the local authorities.

Section 144 imposed in Noida

Section 144 has been implemented in Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissionarate of the district, all the borders have been sealed, heavy police force has been deployed on the borders and every possible attempt has been made to prevent the common people.

Protest against land acquisition

The farmers demanded an enhanced compensation for acquired land among others. Farmers from 40 villages have been campaigning in Noida for over 5 months. Farmers demand constructed houses in city areas near Delhi. The farmers alleged that they have received inadequate compensation for their land by the government.

Press Trust of India shared a video of the farmers protest on X, "Hundreds of protesting farmers stopped by police near Mahamaya Flyover in Noida as they try to march to the Parliament. Farmer groups in Noida and Greater Noida have been protesting since December 2023, demanding increased compensation and developed plots for the land they had previously given to the local development authorities."

Commissioner of Police (traffic), Anil Yadav said, "Traffic going from Sector 15 to Jhundpura will be diverted towards Rajnigandha Chowk from where they can move ahead to their destinations, whereas traffic from Sandeep Paper Mill will be diverted towards IGL Chowk in Sector 1 and Rohan Motors T-point. From there, vehicles can go towards Golchakkar Chowk or Ashok Nagar to go to their destination.”

Bharatiya Kisan Ekta Sangh leader Sukhbir Yadav said during the protest that it has been decided that the protest march that will begin from Noida’s Mahamaya flyover and go to Parliament House in Delhi since The Uttar Pradesh government is not considering their demand for 10% of total land acquired for residential purposes, 64.7% hike land compensation, permission for commercial activities on residential plots and other benefits.
