Indian student from Hyderabad was attacked and robbed in US

Syed Mazahir Ali, Indian student from Hyderabad was attacked and robbed in Chicago, United States. He is a resident of Langar House in Hyderabad. He was pursuing a Masters in Information Technology from Indian Wesleyan University. Mazahir Ali was chased and brutally beaten by three masked men when he was returning back to his apartment after taking food at night. These assailants robbed him after assaulting him.

On 4th February, Syed Mazahir Ali's wife Syeda Ruquiya Fatima Razvi was informed by his husband's friend that her husband was attacked and robbed at Campbell Avenue, near his apartment and now he is admitted to a local hospital. Fatima said that when she got in touch with her husband via video call, Ali's face was bleeding and he was unconscious.

Syeda Ruquiya Fatima Razvi has requested Subramanian Jaishankar to provide good medical care to her husband. She also requested to send her and her three children to Chicago so that they can take care of her husband.

Syed Ali could be seen profusely bleeding in a video and asking for help in a video captured by him after the attack and being robbed. He's phone was also robbed and he was asking for help and assistance in the video. A video of this incident caught in CCTV camera has been circulating on the internet.  He was found profusely bleeding in the images and videos that have surfaced.

The Indian Consulate in Chicago wrote in a post on X, "Consulate is in touch with Syed Mazahir Ali and his wife in India, Syeda Ruquiya Fatima Razvi and assured all possible assistance."

In the past few days, there have been several cases of Indian origin students or workers who have either killed, who have gone missing or found dead in mysterious circumstances.

On 1st February, an Indian-origin student Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, a student of the Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio was found dead. The Embassy expressing grief and paying condolences to the family of the deceased posted a message on X, “Deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of Mr. Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, a student of Indian origin in Ohio. Police investigation is underway. At this stage, foul play is not suspected. The Consulate continues to remain in touch with the family and is extending all possible assistance to them.”

Indian Student Neel Acharya studying at Prude University in the United States of America was found dead on the college's campus on 28th January. Indian student Vivek Saini who had recently received an MBA degree in the United States of America was brutally killed by a homeless man by battering several blows by a hammer in a store in Lithonia, Georgia, US.

Previous year in October 2023, Varun Raj Pucha, a 24 year old Indian student, pursuing a Computer science course at Valparaiso University was brutally stabbed in the head by Jordan Andrade at a fitness centre in Indiana.
In November 2023, Aadtiya Adlakha, another 26 year old Indian student pursuing a PhD at Cincinnati Medical School was shot dead in his car in Ohio.
