Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveils the world's longest twin-lane Sela tunnel, located in Arunachal Pradesh

On 9th March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the country the world's longest twin-lane Sela tunnel, located in Arunachal Pradesh at an elevation of 13,000 feet. The tunnel, which the Border Roads Organization constructed for Rs 825 crore, is strategically vital since it is close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), according to a BRO officer. It also claims to give Tawang communication in any weather conditions across Sela Pass on the Balipara - Chariduar - Tawang Road, boosting the preparedness of the Armed Forces and augmenting the socio-economic development of the border region.

The Sela Tunnel meets the highest criteria for safety measures and was built using the innovative Austrian Tunneling Method. On February 09, 2019, the Prime Minister laid the tunnel's foundation stone, and on April 01, 2019, work on the project started.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, "We are committed to making the Northeast the growth engine of India. Addressing the 'Viksit Bharat Viksit Northeast' programme in Itanagar."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the audience and stated that India's commerce, tourism, and other relationships with South and East Asia will see a significant upsurge with the Northeast as a connecting factor. Over Rs 55,000 crore worth of projects have been showcased here today. In the Northeast, it would have taken Congress twenty years to accomplish what we did in the previous five years. The entire Northeast is watching how Modi's guarantee is working. "From Independence till 2014, around 10,000 km of National Highway were constructed in the Northeast...However, in the last 10 years; more than 6,000 km of National Highway have been constructed in the Northeast. I completed the work of seven decades in just one. "After 2014, a 2000-km new railway line was laid in the north-east. A lot of work has been done in the power sector. Today, work has started on the Dibang multi-purpose hydropower project in Arunachal and the solar power project in Tripura."

He further said Ashtalakshmi has been our vision for the Northeast's development. India's commerce, tourism, and other ties with South and East Asia will be strengthened by our region to the north and east. All around the nation, the celebration of India's transition from an underdeveloped to a developed state is gaining momentum. I have the privilege of taking part in today's celebration of the developed North-East alongside all of the states in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also stated that the Congress would have required twenty years to complete the job that his government accomplished in the Northeast during the past five years.

The renovated route from Chendang Saddle to Noklak and the Kohima-Jessami route were among the road improvements in the state that the PM also officially opened. In Meghalaya, the PM inaugurated projects totaling over Rs 290 crore. The IT Park in Tura, a new four-lane road, and the New Shillong Township's conversion of an existing two-lane road into a four-lane road were the projects for which the foundation stone was placed. He set the groundwork for several state-wide road projects, such as the Agartala Western Bypass. Additionally, he laid the cornerstone for the Integrated Rehabilitation Center for drug addicts and the new Indian Oil Corp.
