Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced five people who will be conferred the Bharat Ratna
On 9th February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that veteran BJP leader LK Advani, former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur, former Prime ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Charan Singh as well as Green Revolution pioneer MS Swaminathan will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. Usually, three Bharat Ratna awards are given in a year, however, this year the government has announced that five people would be honored by Bharat Ratna.
Mallikarjun Kharge posted on X, "On the behalf of Indian National Congress, we welcome the Bharat Ratna being conferred to Shri P V Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh and Dr M S Swaminathan." He also mentioned that Former Prime Minister and Former Congress President, Shri P V Narasimha Rao has tremendously contributed to nation building. Under his government, India embarked on a transformative journey with a series of economic reforms that played a pivotal role in shaping the middle class for generations to come. He also made significant contributions to India’s nuclear programme and a number of foreign policy achievements marked his tenure, including the ‘Look East’ policy. His vital role in the prosperity and development of our nation shall always be cherished.
Mallikarjun Kharge further added that Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh is known for his pro-farmer policies and is widely respected by the crores of farmers — our Annadatas and Khet Mazdoors in the country. A son of the soil, his interventions helped strengthen rural India. He also mentioned about the legendary scientist, Dr Swaminathan is known for his unmatched contribution to the field of agricultural science and his intervention in making India self-sufficient in food grains through the Green Revolution, is a milestone in nation building. An institution builder par excellence, above all a humanitarian, he is also known as “the Father of Economic Ecology”, a richly deserved pseudonym. Congress party applauds their vision, their hardwork and the exceptional legacies of these national icons, which the nation has always celebrated.
Former PM, Naidu wrote on X, “Proud moment for all Telugus across the globe as son of the soil, former Prime Minister Sri #PVNarasimhaRao Garu has been honored with the much deserving #BharatRatna. An eminent scholar, leader, economist, writer, statesman, polyglot, and a humanist - PV Garu’s stellar leadership and pioneering economic reforms steered India through tough times, putting our great nation on the path to achieve greatness on the world stage.”
P. Chidambaram wrote on X, "Happy that secular, socialist leaders have been awarded Bharat Ratna. It is gratifying that the BJP is discovering the contribution of the three eminent men. It is of no consequence to me that the recognition has come on the eve of general elections. Homage to the memory of the three Bharat Ratna Awardees."
