Lal Krishna Advani will be honoured by Bharat Ratna
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Lal Krishna Advani, Bhartiya Janta party veteran and socialist will be honored by Bharat Ratna, highest civilian award.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in a social media post on X,"I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honour. One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumental. His is a life that started from working at the grassroots to serving the nation as our Deputy Prime Minister. He distinguished himself as our Home Minister and I&B Minister as well. His Parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights."
In 1990, senior leader of the BJP party Lal Krishna Advani started a Rath Yatra from Somnath, Gujarat to Uttar Pradesh. Its repercussions led to religious disharmony and riots in several places and Lal Krishna Advani got arrested in Bihar. Lal Krishna Advani's Rath Yatra was a major step in reshaping the politics of the Bhartiya Janta Party. Ayodhya-based chief priest of Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust Satyendra Das said, “There couldn’t have been a better tribute to Advani ji that the country’s highest civilian award for his immense contributions came in his lifetime.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote on X: “The decision to award Bharat Ratna to Lal Krishna Advani is a move to honour the decades of his service to the nation, commitment for the integrity of the country and setting high standards of morality in political life.” Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar congratulated Lal Krishna Advani for receiving Bharat Ratna, he wrote on X,"India's former Deputy Prime Minister and senior leader, Lal Krishna Advani, is delighted to be awarded Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honour. He has made a valuable contribution to the development of the country. Heartiest congratulations."
Veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi congratulated veteran BJP leader LK Advani for being conferred with Bharat Ratna. He paid him a visit at his residence in New Delhi. Defence minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, AAP convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and other political leaders congratulated him for receiving this honour.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi showed his anguish on Lal Krishna Advani being conferred with Bharat Ratna, he wrote on X, “Well deserved #BharatRatna for LK Advani. The graves of Indians who lost their lives in violence are nothing but stepping stones.” Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wrote on X," I also got an opportunity to work with him in the Union cabinet during the tenure of former PM respected Atal Bihari Vajpayee. I learnt a lot from him."
In January 2024, the government announced the 49th Bharat Ratna award for former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur. He is the 17th personality to receive the Bharat Ratna award posthumously. Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan and Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman were the first to receive Bharat Ratna award in 1954.
