NORA FATEHI'S DEEP FAKE VIDEO CONTROVERSY
Nora Fatehi catches the attention of her fans off guard as she recently unveiled a staged video on her Instagram story which led to extreme discussion on several social media platforms.
Popular Bollywood dancer and actress Nora Fatehi shared a screenshot of a video of herself endorsing a fashion brand, showcasing impeccable replication of her voice and body language, clarifying that the video was a deep fake. Nora Fatehi raised objection and expressed her shock and horror. The video is allegedly doing rounds on the internet where Nora Fatehi could be seen advertising a retail clothing company's end of season sale , urging viewers to take advantage of the offers.
The video unfolds the transformation of Nora Fatehi into the character of Vigil Aunty, portrayed by actress and theatre artist Anuradha Menon. In the video, Vigil Aunty emphasizes safeguarding the viewers from scams and online frauds. It aims to educate about deceptive practices between authentic and pirated websites. The video initially appeared authentic on the company's social media.
The peculiar initiative is part of a strategic awareness campaign launched by the company to address the increasing concerns regarding online financial frauds and scams. The advertisement looked legit on the retailer's social media but the company contradicted it. This "scam or not scam" initiative is an awareness campaign in order to protect the innocent users of the internet from such fake contents.
Nora Fatehi wrote, "Shocked!!! This is not me." This incident follows a concerning surge of such technology misuse. Bollywood actors like Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt and others have become the prey of deep fake videos. Nora Fatehi's confrontation with this incident coincidentally comes shortly after the arrest of the accused for Rashmika Mandanna's deep fake video. Before this Rashmika Mandanna's fake video also went viral. Eemani Naven, a 24 year old from Andhra Pradesh was arrested as accused in this matter. The original video was of a London based influencer Zara Patel. According to NDTV, Naven admitted to producing the video with the main intention of increasing his followers on Instagram. As an avid Rashmika fan, he administered a fan page exclusively dedicated to her on the platform. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav also showed his significant concern into this matter. The government has issued several notices to major social media platforms, asking them to identify and remove such deep-fake content at the earliest.
Through this technology many business oriented individuals are promoting their brands as recently happened with Sachin Tendulkar. A gaming app used Sachin Tendulkar's popularity for promotion which was confirmed as fake by Tendulkar himself. Due to the increasing trend of AI technology, it has become easy to create such fake content.
Deep fake videos are created using artificial intelligence; it is a manipulation of facial appearances, expressions along with body language convincingly through deep generative methods. These are burgeoning concerns that require immediate attention. Often indistinguishable at first glance, deep fakes can falsely depict individuals making statements or performing actions they never did, posing a significant threat to the reputations and privacy of those targeted.
