Raisina Dialogue 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Greek Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis
At the Raisina Dialogue 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. In these meetings, Modi stated that Greece and India share similar priorities and concerns in the fight against terrorism and that they had a thorough discussion about how to further strengthen their cooperation in this area.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the prime minister of Greece, is in India for two days. This is the first time in fifteen years that a Greek head of state has been to India. Both leaders committed to work towards international institution reform in order to solve current issues and improve world peace and stability. Key participants in the discussion were Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakashi Lekhi, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. It is a matter of happiness that Greece has decided to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative. We agree that all disputes and tensions should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy
"Our deep mutual trust is reflected in the increasing cooperation in defense and security," stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi. By forming a working group, we can better collaborate in this area to address shared concerns such as cyber security, defense, counterterrorism, and maritime security. In India's defense industry, new co-production and co-development prospects are emerging. Both nations may benefit from this. We have reached a consensus to link the defense sectors of our two nations. Greece and India share similar interests and concerns in the war on terrorism. We had a thorough conversation on how to improve our collaboration in this area."
"I have met a visionary, a strong leader, and, dare I say it, a real friend in Prime Minister Modi. Furthermore, the significance we have on our relationship with India is demonstrated by the alliances we have formed as well as the rise in our bilateral interactions during the previous year. We signed a memorandum of cooperation last year in important areas like defense and agriculture," the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated in a joint statement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He further added, "We are working this year, and I have no doubt that we will swiftly conclude a crucial deal regarding migration and mobility. It will be a significant step toward deepening our cooperation on matters like fighting human trafficking and legal immigration, as well as providing young Indians with the chance to come work in Greece and gain from the expansion of our economy and the opportunities for deepening our relationship."
The IMEC, which was established in September, is viewed as an endeavor by like-minded countries to acquire strategic clout against China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which has come under growing fire for its lack of openness and disrespect for national sovereignty.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar posted on X, "Delighted to call on Prime Minister @kmitsotakis of Greece today. Valued his commitment to enhancing India-Greece ties. Look forward to the strengthening of our strategic partnership."
