Rajya sabha elections 2024 Result Updates

On 27th February, Rajya Sabha elections were conducted in three states—Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh. Harsh Mahajan, the BJP candidate, won the only Upper House seat in Himachal Pradesh. In Karnataka, all three Congress candidates Ajay Maken, Dr Syed Naseer Hussain and GC Chandrashekhar win with 47, 46 and 46 votes respectively. The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) won eight out of ten seats in Uttar Pradesh while the Samajwadi Party won two seats.

Congress leader Dr Syed Naseer Hussain said after winning from Karnataka, "This was an expected victory. We had enough votes to win all three seats. We got more votes for these three seats. This is an important victory ahead of Lok Sabha. It is a privilege for me to be in the Upper House and represent Congress party and Karnataka for the second consecutive time."

Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said, "This shows the unity and integrity of Congress. I thank all the MLAs, party workers and the media. I'm very happy to inform you that all Congress candidates have won. I thank all voters, CM and party workers and the AICC President also. I would like to thank Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge."

Himachal Pradesh LoP Jairam Thakur said, “We are rightly saying that looking at this victory, the Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhu should resign from his position. The MLAs have left him just within a year.”  Sukhvinder Sukhu, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, said earlier today that five to six Congress MLAs had been abducted by a convoy of the Haryana Police and CRPF. He advised the Himachal BJP leaders to exercise patience and refrain from threatening election workers.

Singhvi conceded the defeat in Himachal Pradesh and said, "First of all, I extend heartiest congratulations to Harsh Mahajan (BJP candidate), he has won. He deserves my congratulations. I would like to tell his party - introspect and think. When a 25-member party fields a candidate against a 43-member party, there is just one message -- we will shamelessly do that which is not permitted by the law," He further added, "I would also like to thank the nine persons (MLAs) because they have taught me a lot about human nature, its fickleness or its resoluteness. They supped with us. So, I think we are bad judges of human character, they are obviously better judges of human character."
