Thalapathy Vijay has launched a political party ''Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam'' (TVK)
On 2nd February, Superstar Thalapathy Vijay has launched a political party in Tamil Nadu. Vijay took this major step after leaders of the Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) appointed him the party chief. Vijay is likely to contest in the elections ahead of the assembly election due in Tamil Nadu in 2026. "Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam" would loosely translate to "Tamil Nadu Victory Party."
Vijay said that in a recently held General Council and Executive council meeting, his party has collectively decided neither to context in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls nor he would support any other party. According to the sources he may take an exit from his acting career after completing two films and would completely delve into politics. In 2009, Vijay launched his own fan club Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. The organization showered its support on the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) alliance in the 2011 assembly elections. In October 2021, the organization contested in the local body elections in Tamil Nadu and secured 115 out of the 169 contested seats.
Vijay is presently shooting for his upcoming film, 'GOAT'. Vijay has a massive fan following in Kerala and Karnataka and is popularly known as Thalapathy. His real name is Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar. Vijay's latest movie Leo was a huge box office success. After four weeks of theatrical release, the film grossed over Rs 400 crore in India across all languages.
Several famous actors who got into politics
Several famous actors have got into politics, but none have succeeded after All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) founder and the late chief minister M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa. Kamal Haasan, one of the finest actor with huge fan base but his political venture was a complete failure. He launched his party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) in 2018 and contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and the 2021 Assembly elections, but failed to win any seat.

He comes into TN politics at a very interesting time. Perhaps the best time. Can he make a real difference? In recent history, many superstars have disappointed in politics. Vijay's actions will be watched keenly. All the best #GOAT.”
While some fans showed their disappointment in Vijay's decision to quit cinema. “The man in his peak of stardom, with currently the number one Star image of business, in the time of crazy salary being offered, could have easily been within his comfort and moved on with life, but here he goes #ThalapathyVijay taking up d challenge of politics… Big loss to the industry and hopefully a gain for the TN people via his political career.”
